  • My strength: Being a bridge
    Diary/2021 2021. 8. 31. 20:11

따로 1:1로 만나면 둘 다 좋은 사람인데, 유독 다대다로 만났을 때 으르렁 하게 되는 경우가 있다. This time, I found out the difference between those two people. One of them is a programmer who is optimized for fast-changing working places such as start-up environments. He likes to do many experiments and tends to not spend much time on pixel-perfect UI. The other person is a contrast to him. Rather than doing a lot of experiments, she is a strict rule maker and also a follower. Because of this huge gap between those two people's characteristics, collaboration was almost impossible, especially when they just sat down and talked. This was a vicious cycle.

Here is my approach to be a bridge between them. When talking with him, show the app's demo version, which will be used as a reference to hear about his inner thoughts. And when talking with her, I told my honest opinion in a polite manner, because I know that she's the person who can accept other person's opinion and change her thoughts if hers is not logical anymore. At first, her argument sounds very firm and assertive, but I guess this is because of her past experience. Rather than arguing in a strong voice, I'm asking her a lot that she can have a chance to see the situation differently.

They are just different people with different strengths. There's nothing to blame someone in this kind of situation. I'm happy to be a bridge between them. Honestly, it wasn't that hard for me because I already experienced it enough, I mean, being a mediator or a messenger between people who used to be one-and-only to each other but not anymore after realizing that the traits of their counterpart were actually the most unbearable thing by each other. I hated being in that role, but nowadays, since I'm spending a lot of time at the workplace, I'm proud that I successfully overcame my painful past days and sublimate them as my strength. But more importantly, I feel grateful about being surrounded by people who can do actual conversation, rather than doing a monologue.
